Jada Pinkett-Smith proposal to boycott the Oscar caused a lot of positive and negative reactions. Spike Lee shared the same sentiment as Jada in regards to the Oscar's all white Oscar nominations. Lee, referred to the Oscars as the "lillywhite" awards. Lee, said he will not attend the Oscars this year even though he was awarded an honorary Oscar in November. Janet Hubert, the actress known for her role as "Aunt Viv" on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air disagreed with Jada. Janet made a video on Facebook in which she referred to Jada as "Miss Thing" quite a few times. Janet insinuated that Jada only made the video suggesting a boycott because her husband, Will Smith wasn't nominated for his role in Concussion. "I find it ironic that somebody that made her living and has made millions and millions of dollars from the very people that your talking about boycotting just because you didn't get a nomination, just because you didn't win. That's not the way life works, baby" Hubert also stated that Jada and Will were apart of the problem in Hollywood. She further explained that the black community had bigger issues to address than the Oscars. Social media has went crazy with the shade that Janet threw at Jada. Some loved her post and stated she made good points while others have said she is holding a grudge for being replaced on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
"Will Smith responded and said that he wasn't aware of Jada's video and was blind-sighted. Nevertheless, he will support his wife and will not attend. Jada responded to Hubert saying that it wasn't just about the Oscars.
Another person who opposed Jada was Stacey Dash. Stacey Dash has been saying some ridiculous stuff every since she has been hired by Fox News as a commentator. She basically said we can't have black exclusive events and get mad that the Oscars are white exclusive. But her actually words were upsetting and turned her back on the black community-- that use to adore her. Yes "use to" because after she said, what she said, the black community was ready to trade her for Rachel Dolezal. Stacey bravely stated, "We have to make up our minds. Either we want to have segregation or integration. And If we don't want segregation, then we need to get rid of channels like BET and the BET Awards and the (NAACP) Image Awards where you're only awarded if you're black." Then she really put her foot in her mouth and said, "Just like there shouldn't be a Black History Month. You know we're Americans? Period. That's it" BET responded to Dash on Twitter by saying "Soooooo @REALStaceyDash can you give our check back... or nah?" BET has made many other post on their social media accounts poking fun at the actress. Dash responded to BET yesterday, in a blog post on Patheos titled "How BET Lies To Black People." Here are some of the things she wrote: "Well here's the thing. Thank you for reminding me, since most have never heard of that show" After throwing a lot of shade in her article, she went on to say: "I don't have a problem with black people having their own space. I have a problem with folks at BET absolutely freaking out when other institutions don't match up to what they think is best" Stacey Dash's cousin, Dame Dash was also upset by her comments on Fox and expressed his disdain on the Boyce Watkins show. Dame Dash was holding back because it's his cousin. He said; "it's annoying having a cousin that looks like that and has an opinion, that works for Fox news so you know it's just like you know..." After being further questioned by Watkins he said; "I think Fox pays her to say that sh#t. You know how manipulative they are." He then became very candid by saying; "It isn't the best thing to hear Dash associated with cooning."
50 cent and Tyrese agreed that they fully support Jada's decision and will not attend. They also urged Chris Rock to do the same. Chris Rock is very vocal about racism and often includes it in his comedy routines. What do you think Chris Rock should do?
